coco chanel: a thouroughly modern woman

Coco Chanel was a genius and part of a much larger movement in aesthetics. She had contemporaries in every area of the arts and if genius has an uncanny ability to recognize other genius, she was recognized. It is well known that she also recognized the yet unrecognized Igor Stravinsky and bank rolled a production of The Rite of Spring in Paris.

At the time she was a visionary of a time not yet realized. Her sense of style is timeless and has lasted almost one hundred years. She did this in a man’s world and became one of the most influential people in the last 100 years according to Time Magazine.  Not bad for an orphan who started out as a singer in the Moulin.
