Joan of Arc came to me through a poem by Leonard Cohen. Through his poem, I realized that this was in fact a passionate love story. It is the story of someone who was consumed by her faith to the point where she would do anything, even at the cost of her own life, to be loyal to her heart. It is hard to fathom the passion that this woman had at such a young age. To think that she could have commanded an army and put a king on the throne, all before the age of nineteen!

Boleyn lead an incredible life and has made many lasting influences in fashion, the arts, religious reform and politics, providing England with their strongest leader ever, Queen Elizabeth I.

This is a tribute to our grandmothers and great-grandmothers. Many of these women came to Canada with their husbands, expecting one hundred and sixty acres of land and a new and better life. They packed up their linen and china and carried them over to this new land; only to find out they were living in a dirt house with a dirt floor.

Together with several women, McClung was a founding member of the Political Equality League and a tireless speaker for its speaker’s bureau. She crossed the province of Manitoba many times, using her wit and humor to drive home at every theatre and community hall her message of justice for women.

Fanny Mendelssohn composed 466 pieces of music, including a piano trio and several books of solo piano pieces and songs. A number of her songs were originally published under her brother’s name in his opus 8 and 9 collections. One of these songs, “Italy”, was a favourite of Queen Victoria, who thought Felix had written it.
